Behind the Scenes: Fight Club

Here is a look behind the scenes at the 'What's the first rule about Fight Club' photo shoot I did with the ring girls from the FCC First Contact Contender. The models are the ring girls that hold up the score cards during the fights. The models get their photos added to the fight cards which are leaflets that the audience are given before the fight so that they know the itinerary for the evening. For the ring girls, having up to date stunning photos to feature in the cards is a must and this brings us on nicely to the shoot that took place.

Key Info:

Models: FCC Ring Girls

Studio: Millwood Photographic Studios, Stalybridge

Photographer: Andrew James

Camera: Nikon D7100 with a Nikon 24-70mm F2.8

Edit: Adobe Lightroom 5

Inspiration: Pinterest

Moodboard:

In terms of lighting there are 2 soft boxes lighting the subjects, one on the left and one on the right. The strobe unit on the right was set to slightly less power than the one of the left so that the subjects weren’t lit evenly or ‘flat lit’. This creates some highlights on one side of the models and slight shadow on the other side which gives the subjects shape and form.

There was a constant light trained on the red seamless background to light up the paper so it didn’t fall in to shadow and still retain its vibrancy. The light also gives the subjects some rim light to make them pop out of the background. Here are a couple of behind the scenes shots that clearly show the set up with the red seamless background and the lighting.

When processed the final images in Lightroom I added some filters that boosted the saturation levels of the background and crushed some of the blacks so pick up some of the shadows.
